Macy Gray believes she would have ended up with no hair like Britney Spears if she hadn't sorted out her ego.The soul singer believes the failure of her third album, 'The Trouble With Being Myself', was God's way of stopping her diva-like behaviour and saving her from ending up like troubled Britney.Macy said: "I had developed a really huge ego. I wasn't the person I had been. And I had a little drug habit for a while. I wasn't keeping in touch with the people who cared for me. "I believe in God and I think it was just his way of doing things. Looking back, maybe I needed that. If I had kept going, I might be this horrible person - shaving my head or in rehab or some s**t like that."Macy expected a host of record companies to battle it out for her signature after she parted ways with Sony - but she was wrong.She said: "It was devastating and eye-opening. I'd been treated like a queen. I had it in my head, 'I'm Macy Gray, everyone is going to be banging on my door', and it didn't happen."I'd watch those VH1 one-hit wonder shows and I thought, 'f**k'. I didn't know if I would ever make another record."
