Fruit prints were big in 2011

This year saw a major seventies revival, from coloured suede knee high boots to fedora hats to flares. The seventies were back in full swing.

And with flares on trend in 2011, then came the Palazzo pants. Extremely wide legged trousers, both comfortable and stylish and worn by everyone over the summer months.

As well as the 1970s era influencing fashion, the year also saw sixties styles make a comeback; shift dresses were everywhere, in an array of colours and fabrics.

Fruit prints on clothing and accessories were a big trend, especially in the summer. It was first saw at Stella McCartney, and the high street soon followed suit offering all kinds of fruit on their clothes.

The styles were loved by the fashion elite, Leighton Meester aka Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl wore many fruity pieces in the series.

The year 2011 also saw the rise of the Middleton sisters, not so much a trend, but a following, these two sisters have got stylish written all over them, their style is copied all over.

Ever since the Royal Wedding on April 29 2011, Kate and Pippa have caused quite a storm on the fashion front, and its all down to Sarah Burton the creative director of Alexander McQueen for designing their infamous dresses.

Both Kate’s wedding dress and Pippa’s bridesmaid dress have been made into High Street versions, so we can all get a bit of that Middleton magic.

Marks and Spencer brought out a replica of the Kate’s sapphire engagement ring, which has become one of the best selling items of jewellery in the store, selling 200 of them per week; Also Harper’s Bazaar placed Kate as the number one on their Best Dressed List 2011.

Maxi dresses were really big this year, they were everywhere, from jersey fabrics, to chiffon styles; anything that skimmed the floor was “in vogue.”
