Marcia Cross' cancer-stricken husband has "a big battle ahead."

The 'Desperate Housewives' star's spouse Tom Mahoney was diagnosed with the potentially fatal disease last year and her mother Janet Cross admits the future is uncertain for the couple, as it is not yet known if Tom will survive his battle with the illness.

Janet told Britain's Closer magazine: "It's heartbreaking to see Tom so ill - he's got a big battle ahead of him.

"It just breaks my heart that they've only just found each other fairly recently and he might not be around to watch the kids grow up. They are the most romantic pair too.

"I just hope Tom gets better, so they can have more of a normal life again. His chemotherapy has been so gruelling and it's been tough, but they're in love and doing the best they can."

Marci, 46, met stockbroker Tom, 51, in early 2005, and they married in June 2006.

They have two-year-old twin daughters, Eden and Savannah.
