Although famed for her glamourous looks and come-to-bed eyes in films like SHANGHAI EXPRESS, Dietrich was not a fan of romance off set, 80-year-old MARIA RIVA insists. In an interview with German magazine Bunte, Riva maintains her mother's string of affairs with co-stars masked a troubled woman with a profound aversion to sex. She says, "Marlene Dietrich the film star was always just the person in the mirror, but never her real self. "She was a totally normal schizophrenic." But the star's mixed signals didn't stop her becoming one of the most coveted women of the 1920s and 1930s.
Riva says, "All of her lovers wanted to marry her anyway."
