Mel Gibson has been invited to attend Whitney Houston's funeral after he reportedly tried to help her when she was dealing with her addiction issues, but will be unable to go due to prior commitments.
Mel Gibson has been invited to Whitney Houston's funeral.
The 'Braveheart' actor - who himself has dealt with alcohol abuse issues in the past - reportedly tried to help the 'I Didn't Know My Own Strength' hitmaker several years ago while she was struggling with her addictions.
According to TMZ.com, as a token of their appreciation, Whitney's family were keen to have Mel attend her funeral at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey, tomorrow (18.02.12), but he is unable to go due to prior family commitments.
A number of big-named celebrities are due to attend the private funeral - which will be screened for fans on the internet - including Whitney's 'Bodyguard' co-star Kevin Costner.
The actor is due to address mourners at the memorial service, while her godmother Aretha Franklin and singing legend Stevie Wonder will perform.
Record executive Clive Davis will also be attending, and has continued to be a "rock" to her distraught family.
A source said: "Clive has been a complete rock for her family this entire time. He's been with her since the beginning, and he's been everything to them. They're leaning on him for emotional support. He talks to them hourly, and he's a very big part in planning her funeral.
"Clive has been a constant presence for them. They're thanking God for Clive."
