Naomi Watts is planning to "hide her money under the mattress" because of the current economic crisis.

The actress is so worried about the global financial downturn she thinks the time might be right to turn her back on the banks and hoarde her cash at home.

Naomi believes the plot of her latest film 'The International' - in which the banks control everything - is more realistic than people might realise.

It feels like it's time to hide the money under the mattress

She said: "These are very scary times. It feels like it's time to hide the money under the mattress.

"It just goes to show that these empires, these corporations have so much influence over us - they talk us into doing things, living beyond our means, the banks are able to control everything.

"We are all very vulnerable. I've called my accountant many times in fits of panic. You feel like, 'Let me get all my cash out now!' "
