Nas must pay Kelis almost $44,000 a month.

Kelis - who is in the middle of an acrimonious divorce from Nas, and gave birth to her estranged husband's child, son Knight, on Tuesday (21.07.09) - was awarded the staggering sum by a Los Angeles judge yesterday (23.07.09).

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Louis Meisinger ruled Nas should pay Kelis $30,471 spousal support monthly, and also provide his son with $9,027.

Nas also has to pay $45,000 for Kelis' legal fees and for a forensic accountant.

The payments must be made until September 8, when a new hearing is scheduled to take place.

Kelis filed for divorce in April citing "irreconcilable differences". It is believed she became tired of Nas' verbal abuse and infidelity.

The pair have been arguing about finances for months, with Kelis claiming Nas had not given her enough money during her pregnancy.

Nas insisted he had paid her $30,000 in expenses.

He also offered to provide a one-off payment of $20,000 until a later hearing, but yesterday the judge ruled the amount was insufficient.

Kelis and Nas met at an after-party hosted by P. Diddy for the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards.

They got engaged a year later and married in Atlanta in 2005.
