We're currently facing an obesity epidemic

British women are the most overweight in Europe, according to new figures revealed.

The data, released by Eurostat, found that near one in four women are so fat that their health is suffering.

This is a far higher proportion than in other countries of Western Europe.

The statistics showed that British men are not far behind, with 22.1 per cent being classes as overweight, coming second only to Malta.

The figures also show the proportion of women who are obese or overweight falls as the educational level rises.

The high levels of obesity in the UK are in stark contrast to those in countries such as Romania, where just eight per cent of women were classed as obese along with 7.6 per cent of men.

And with all of us bound to over indulge in the upcoming festive season, these figures are only set to get worse.
