Noel Gallagher wants to be Britain's next Prime Minister.

The Oasis star claims it won't be long until his popularity takes him to number 10 Downing Street, and plans on having a "proper laugh" once he is running the country.

He said: "There will be a groundswell of public opinion sooner or later which will carry me into office. And let me tell you, I'll only be there five years and it'll all end in tears - but it will be a proper, proper laugh while it's happening."

Put it all together - it all mounts up

But while the oldest Gallagher brother doubts he'll be one of the country's greatest leaders, he believes he could easily solve the current financial problems.

He added to Absolute Radio DJ Christian O'Connell: "I'd have a worldwide search down the back of the couch for shrapnel. Put it all together - it all mounts up."

Noel, who once said "politics is like football for me. Labour is my team and even if you don't like a striker you don't give up supporting the team" - isn't a fan of current Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

The guitarist - who famously visited Downing Street shortly after Labour came to power in 1997 - said: "We haven't had anyone since Tony Blair that can get up there and speak well."
