Mckenna Wins Libel Case.LATEST: Hypnotist PAUL McKENNA has won his libel action against a British newspaper which branded him a fake. The 43-year-old - an entertainer before he became a self-help guru - claimed he was defamed by the Daily Mirror in an article questioning his academic credentials. The 2003 story reported that his degree from Lasalle University, Louisiana, was "bogus", with journalist VICTOR LEWIS-SMITH adding: "I discovered that anyone could be fully doctored by Lasalle within months (no previous qualifications needed), just so long as they could answer the following question correctly: 'Do you have 2,615 dollars, sir?'" The ruling at London's High Court came after McKenna, who has since studied for a doctorate in England, claimed he had been made a laughing stock by Lewis-Smith's accusations.Presiding judge MR JUSTICE EADY ruled yesterday, "Mr McKenna was not, in my judgment, dishonest and, for that matter, whatever one may think of the academic quality of his work, or of the degree granted by La Salle, it would not be accurate to describe it as 'bogus'."It was certainly not granted 'merely' for money (or even 'in effect' merely for money)."The claimant is therefore entitled to succeed on liability."A judgement on damages will be made in October (06).
