Philip Seymour Hoffman's Oscar fear

Philip Seymour Hoffman was "terrified" to receive an Oscar.

The 'Doubt' star won the award for Best Actor for his role in 2005's 'Capote' but admits he felt very uncomfortable when he had to accept the accolade and give an acceptance speech.

He explained: "My win for 'Capote' was incredibly terrifying. Getting up in front of 100 million people - you really can't imagine the fear.

"It's fear like I never thought. You don't get up in joy. You get up in absolute terror - like I'm going to say something stupid and everyone in the world will hear it. You just can't get over that thought."

Since he received his Oscar, Hoffman admits his whole life has changed.

The 41-year-old star can't go anywhere without people recognising him and he admits it has been a struggle to cope with the constant attention.

He added: "Your anonymity is lost. Until you've lost that, you don't really know what that means.
