Portia De Rossi nearly became a lawyer.
The Australian-born star doesn't think she'd have suited climbing the corporate ladder like her latest on screen character, Veronica, in new US comedy 'Better Off Ted'.
Portia said: "I went to law school for a year thinking I was going to do that for a living before I went to acting. To think that career could have been my life is pretty shocking to me."
Referring to the fictional Veridian Dynamics where her character works, she said: "You're just trying to get ahead and be successful, but at the same time, if you're working for a company like this, it's so immoral. It doesn't care about people, it doesn't care about you, but you're striving to achieve this great career."

Portia, 36, insists she enjoyed playing Veronica - who is the ruthless boss of main character Ted - even though she couldn't relate to her.
The blonde actress - who is married to US TV talk show host Ellen DeGeneres - added: "Veronica really doesn't care about how other people feel or how they interpret what she's saying.
"That's what is so fun for me, because I'm always worried about how I'm coming off or if someone will be offended by something I've said.
'Better Off Ted' starts on US network ABC this Wednesday (18.03.09).
Portia shot to fame playing lawyer Nell Porter in hit US TV show 'Ally McBeal' from 1998 to 2002.
