Rhys Ifans Breaks Foot

Rhys Ifans has broken his foot playing soccer against a group of children.

The Welsh actor-and-singer snapped a bone during an impromptu match outside his band The Peth's Cardiff studio.

The injury comes just days before the group play their biggest ever show - supporting super-group Oasis for a sold out concert at Cardiff's 73,000 capacity Millennium Stadium on Friday (12.06.09).

Although he will still perform, the 40-year-old star's left foot is encased in a plastic boot brace and he needs crutches to walk.

Rhys said: "It's probably the most un-rock 'n' roll accident you could get. I broke it playing a match against some children, and I didn't even have the ball at the time, that's the most embarrassing bit.

"I'm just hoping that by the time I play the adrenaline will have kicked in sufficiently to get me through it OK."

Rhys - who starred in the video for Oasis' hit single 'The Importance of Being Idle' - also insists he didn't use his friendship with the band's stars, Liam and Noel Gallagher, to get The Peth on the bill.

He said: "They saw us and realised we really were a band - we looked like a band, drank like a band and smelt like a band. So, within a couple of weeks, we were booked."
