May 6th20.00–22.00Continuing tonight is the second season of the award-winning hospital drama. Currently the toprated show in the US, Grey’s Anatomy charts the personal and professional lives of a group of young surgical interns. In tonight’s first episode, everybody is called into action when four victims of a car crash are brought in; Callie causes problems in the house; and Meredith and Finn finally kiss. The interns have their hands full when five victims of the same car accident are rushed into the hospital. Marshall (John Cho, ‘Harold and Kumar Get the Munchies’) is an intern at Mercy West hospital who somehow lost control of his car, ploughing into another and causing a further collision. In the other two cars were pregnant 22- year-old Melanie, her husband and her parents. Melanie seems fine, loudly chattering away to an unimpressed Cristina and Alex, but when a scan is performed to check on her baby, the doctors realise that she has sustained massive internal damage. While George performs the unenviable task of telling Melanie’s parents that their daughter’s injuries are “catastrophic”, Bailey calls all surgeons into action to try and save mother and baby. Marshall, meanwhile, is devastated when his own scans turn out normal suggesting he fell asleep at the wheel of his car, exhausted after 12 hours of surgery on top of a 30-hour shift. “Does this mean that because I stayed in the OR to save a life, I may have killed a pregnant woman?” he asks a speechless Meredith. When Meredith turns her back for a second, Marshall leaves his bed and is found watching Melanie’s operation from the viewing gallery. Will he see his prediction fulfilled? Elsewhere, Izzie’s relationship with Denny is put under strain when he collapses after over-exerting himself. She tries to cheer him up, but Burke reminds her how hard this is for a man like Denny and tells her to “let him grieve”. Meredith and Derek finally have it out and decide that even friendship may be out of the question. Cristina offends Burke by falling asleep during an intimate liaison. George’s new romance with Callie causes problems in the house when Izzie and Meredith jump to the conclusion that Callie has “crossed the line.” And Meredith and Finn finally move their relationship up a level and kiss for the first time. In the second episode of tonight’s double bill, Izzie resorts to desperate measures when things start to look bad for Denny. Izzie is overjoyed when a heart finally becomes available for Denny. She begs Bailey to let her prep him for surgery while Burke heads to Mercy West to collect the heart. Bailey is hesitant, given Izzie’s history with Denny, but Izzie promises to remain “100 per cent professional.” Predictably, this is a promise that she cannot keep. After telling Denny about the new heart, she is upset to see him signing a ‘Do Not Resuscitate’ form. “If I don’t get this heart, I’m done,” he insists. “I’m tired.” It seems that Denny’s fears may not be groundless. Over at Mercy West, Burke finds out that the donor heart can no longer be used – but a second heart is also being harvested for donation. However, the second heart has already been assigned to a patient who was entered on the transplant list a mere 17 seconds before Denny.

And when Izzie hears that Denny may not get the heart, she has a dangerous idea of how to get him moved up the list... Also in this episode, Addison realises she can never compete with Meredith; and a disgruntled employee takes his anger out on his boss –with devastating results.
