Rosie O'Donnell has hit out at Lindsay Lohan's casting as the late Dame Elizabeth Taylor.

The troubled actress will be playing the iconic star in TV movie 'Liz and Dick', and Rosie has claimed she is not the right person for the part as she is not in the "frame of mind" to work.

Speaking on the 'Today' show, she said: "I feel very sorry for her. I think she needs a lot of help. She needs time away. She's had a lot of trouble doing every single movie, including 'Saturday Night Live'. She was out and not at rehearsal. I think she's not in a place to work."

Her opinion became even more heated when fellow guest on the show Donny Deutsch proclaimed Lindsay to be the Elizabeth Taylor of this "generation".

She said: "You're out of your mind, you're a crackhead! Get out of here! The last thing she did good she was 16. I don't think she's right for the role and I don't think she's capable at this point of doing what's needed."

However the 25-year-old actress' father Michael Lohan has hit back, saying Rosie has no "talent".

He told RadarOnline.com: "Who the hell is Rosie O'Donnell to judge anyone, especially Lindsay who has far more talent than Rosie ever had?"
