'Coronation Street' star Samia Smith has split from her husband of five years Matthew Smith, with whom she has a 14-month-old daughter.

'Coronation Street' star Samia Smith has split from her husband of five years.

The actress and property developer Matthew Smith - who have a 14-month-old daughter, Freya, together - have decided to end their marriage, but insist the break-up was amicable.

A statement said: "'Coronation Street' actress Samia Smith and her husband Matthew have today announced that they have decided to separate after five years of marriage.

"This is a mutual decision and there is no one else involved. Samia and Matthew ask that their privacy be respected at this time for the sake of their daughter Freya."

Samia - who plays Maria Connor in the ITV1 soap - and Matthew married in September 2005 and were delighted when they welcomed baby Freya into the world in October 2009.

Last year, the 28-year-old beauty revealed she would like to have more children, saying: "I definitely want more, and I don't want to leave it years and years. I think it would be nice for Freya to have a little brother or sister."
