Samuel L Jackson started his career as the Sugar Plum Fairy in a school play.

The 'Pulp Fiction' star - who is renowned for playing murderous characters - once donned sparkly wings and a tutu for a production of 'The Nutcracker' at the school his aunt taught at.

He said: "There were never enough boys to act in the plays, so I always had to be in them. I remember myself in Sugar Plum Fairy outfits, being Humpty Dumpty, wearing loin cloths."

Despite his happiness to comply with his aunt's request, the 60-year-old actor now insists people working with him do things his way.

There were never enough boys to act in the plays, so I always had to be in them. I remember myself in Sugar Plum Fairy outfits, being Humpty Dumpty, wearing loin cloths.

He explained: "On set, I am always grumpy. See, I have this unreasonable expectation that everyone is going to be as prepared as I am when I show up for work. I'm becoming more unreasonable as I grow older.

"Most times the actors know what they've got to do; it's the young directors from the video world who drive me crazy. I know the shots will probably be used as DVD extras. But when I say this, the young guys stare at me like I'm being evil."

When he's not working, Samuel tries to relax and recharge at home, but admits he can't stay inactive for long.

He adds: "If I'm not on set, I play golf in the mornings. I'm pretty good now. I try to stay fit. I was trying not to admit this, but yes, I spend my afternoons working, in meetings.

"What can I say? I'm trying to cram in as many opportunities in this lifetime as possible."
