She split from her cycling legend fiancé Lance Armstrong in February 2006 after a two-and-a-half year relationship. Later that month, Sheryl was diagnosed with breast cancer.

She has since successfully completed treatment and recently revealed she was ready to settle down, saying: "I'm looking for a cowboy!"

The 'Soak Up the Sun' singer is the latest in a long line of celebrities to adopt. Angelina Jolie, Sharon Stone, Tom Cruise and Madonna have also opened their homes to unwanted children.
