Ugly Sigourney

10-09-2006 08:45

Sigourney Weaver has never felt attractive - because her mother told her she wasn't pretty when she was a child.

When she was nine, Sigourney asked her mother if she was pretty, to which her mum replied: "No dear, you're just plain."

Sigourney, 56, said: "If my own mother didn't think I'm pretty I was really in trouble. I think she was saying that so that I wouldn't get conceited. I was in therapy for years and years trying to figure out the answers to some of these things.

The actress - whose mum, Elizabeth Inglis, appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's 'The 39 Steps' - claims she has only become friends with her 93-year-old mother in the last 10 years.

Sigourney said: "It's only in the past decade that we've become good friends. I used to be quite nervous of her judgement, but at a certain point I didn't worry anymore."
