Sigourney Weaver set for space flight

'Alien' star Sigourney Weaver is set to travel into space.

The actress has asked Virgin boss Sir Richard Branson if she can be one of the first passengers on his Virgin Galactic flight, which is set to blast off in 2008.

She is said to be prepared to splash out the reported £115,000 for a seat to experience the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "We'd be delighted to take Sigourney back to visit the Aliens."

A spokesperson for Virgin confirmed: "Discussions are taking place."

Passengers on the flight will be blasted up 70 miles above Earth, where they will enjoy six minutes of breathtaking views and weightlessness before returning home.

7,000 people - including 'Star Trek' actor William Shatner and former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Dave Navarro - have already registered their interest in the trip, although they do not have to pay deposits until next year.

However, Sigourney, 55, will not be on the very first trip as Branson will only be taking his two children, Holly and Sam, and his parents.
