Tilda Swinton says her open relationship is "the best thing" for her children.
The 48-year-old Scottish actress lives with her partner John Byrne and their twins, 11-year old Xavier and Honor, but also has a romantic relationship with artist Sandro Kopp.
Swinton said: "It may seem odd but it is certainly the best thing for the children.
It's not something I try to promote as a radical lifestyle choice
"It's not something I try to promote as a radical lifestyle choice. But it's a situation I find very healthy. I can maintain my life with my children and their father and spend time with the man I've become very fond of.
"I am very fortunate there has been a lot of understanding by the men."
Artist-and-theatre director Byrne, 67, also enjoys the benefits of an open lifestyle and is in a romantic relationship with theatre lighting director Jeanine Davis, 42.
He has previously said: "It's all very relaxed and amicable. We have not hidden away and Jeanine is very much part of my life. Tilda knows all about it and is more than happy with the situation. It's all very relaxed and amicable. Tilda has Sandro and the arrangement works very well."
Last night (02.02.09), Swinton was awarded the Best Actress prize at the Evening Standard British Film Awards for her performance in ‘Julia'.
