Tobey Maguire has admitted he hit rock bottom before he found success. The heartthrob actor owes his recovery from a near-nervous breakdown ten years ago to his now successful Hollywood career. The 'Spider-Man' actor said he had to change his outlook on life to pull through his poverty-ridden, trouble-filled teenage years. He said: "I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I just needed to change. There were certain things in my personality that I didn't like. It was a very emotional time for me and it was a rational decision." Tobey struggled at school, getting into a bad crowd and drank alcohol heavily from an early age. His parents, Vincent, a chef and Wendy, a secretary were both under 21 when he was a born - and split when he was just two. The handsome star, who then spent his childhood growing up with different family members in California, says he was a loner and an outsider. He is quoted by Britain's The Sun newspaper as saying : "I wanted to be liked. I have a fear of vulnerability and a fear of risking and being hurt." The 28-year-old recovered alcoholic now takes life easy and chooses just one film a year - and only if it's good enough. He added: "I'm extremely picky. It's not worth busting my ass unless it's something I love."
