The 28-year-old singer - picked up an impressive five gongs at the glitzy award ceremony last month - has hit out at critics who compared her green Givenchy gown to that of the animated ogre Fiona from the 'Shrek' film franchise, saying she worked out "twice a day" to be able to fit into the elegant number.

Speaking on stage at a concert in Perth, Australia, the 'Hello' hitmaker said: "Before the Grammys I had this dress right, I wore this green dress, everyone said I looked like Fiona from Shrek. I don't f***ing care. It was Givenchy Couture, they can say what they want.

"I worked out. Obviously I'm a large lady and I like eating food very much, but I was working out twice a day to fit into that Givenchy dress because it was quite tight. I was running a very long time to get fit for this but it never worked."

Meanwhile Adele - who took home the Grammys for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year for 'Hello', and Best Pop Vocal album - also turned heads at the award show after she snapped her Album of the Year award in half in order to share it with Beyoncé, as she expected the stars LP 'Lemonade' to be named the winner.

She said during her acceptance speech: "I can't possibly accept this award.

"I'm very humbled and I'm very grateful and gracious, but my artist of my life is Beyoncé and this album to me, the 'Lemonade' album, was just so monumental.

"It was so monumental and so well thought-out and so beautiful and soul-baring. We all got to see another side to you that you don't always let us see and we appreciate that. All us artists here adore you. You are our light!"
