Anne Hathaway was 'f***ed up' by fame.

Anne Hathaway

The 'Les Miserables' actress was left ‘stressed out’ by her Hollywood success as she had no idea how to cope with life in the public eye.

But the actress has now realised that she doesn’t need ‘validation’ from anyone.

She told the new issue of Britain's Elle magazine: "This fame thing? F***ed me up for a really long time.

"I didn't know how to do it; I didn't know how to engage with it; it stressed me out. And people would say, 'You just have to be yourself,' and I was like, 'But I don't know who that is yet!' "

Anne - who is married to Adam Shulman - has now learned she doesn't need validation from anyone but herself and says that knowledge has made her life much easier.

The 31-year-old actress can next be seen in 'Interstellar' and learned some valuable lessons from co-star Matthew McConaughey.

She said: "The man speaks in poetry. I remember once while we were filming, something got screwed up, and he said to me: 'Look, we can get upset about this, or we can go with it and have a great story for the rest of our lives.'"
