Ariana Grande at the 2014 MTV EMAs

Ariana Grande is taking no notice of the claims that state she's a diva.

The singer picked up awards at last night's MTV European Music Awards and admits that when people say she's unfriendly and demanding, it bothered her at first but she's now decided to ignore them because she knows they're untrue.

Speaking at the EMAs she explained: "I stick to the truth. I know my truth. I pay attention to the positive.

"For a while I was very upset by it, the negativity, but then I realised it's not my business what others think of me. It's my business to stay grounded and focused and not get derailed by any negativity.

"I've completely detached myself from it. I know what's real. Those that don't understand me, don't need to."

The performer sang 'Problem' and 'Break Free' at the ceremony, and insisted she was just eager to succeed.

"There's a big difference between being determined and being a bitch. A lot of people don't understand that.

"There are a lot of unfair assumptions that everyone is making."

Adding that despite her not being a diva, she won't be bossed around and has clear visions of how she sees her career progressing.

Speaking to The Sun newspaper she said: ""There's a big difference between being determined and being a bitch. A lot of people don't understand that."

"There are a lot of unfair assumptions that everyone is making."
