Benedict Cumberbatch has viewed a $10.8 million mansion in Los Angeles and is ready to make a bid for the property.

Actor Cumberbach recently got engaged to theatre director Sophie Hunter has viewed a seven-bedroom, 9.5 bathroom Tuscan-style villa, which sits on 2.5 acres of manicured lawns in the exclusive Hidden Hills neighbourhood and is planning to make an offer on the property.

Benedict Cumberbatch has viewed a $10.8 million mansion in Los Angeles and is ready to make a bid for the property.

An estate agent told the Daily Express newspaper: "Benedict's representatives have indicated he is ready to make an initial offer which will not be too far off the asking price, so he could be moving in early in the New Year."

The lavish property is within a gated community and as well as a number of bedrooms, it also boasts a cinema room, bar, gym, library and a garage big enough for five cars.

The 38-year-old star was recently nominated for two Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards and hailed the honour as an "amazing early Christmas present".

Benedict - who is up for Outstanding Male Actor in a Leading Role for 'The Imitation Game' and for the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for 'Sherlock: His Last Vow' - said: "I'm over the moon. And so delighted to receive recognition in such esteemed company for both 'Sherlock' and 'The Imitation Game' by my acting peers.

"What an amazing early Christmas present! Thank you to all who voted and watched both pieces of work."
