The actor will star opposite Elizabeth Marvel in the production, telling the story of a murderous fan who saves her favourite novelist Paul Sheldon after his involvement in a car crash.

Nursing him back to health, she's not happy when she finds a new manuscript written by Paul where she discovers he plans to kill off beloved character Misery Chastain.

She forces him to write a new story where Misery isn't killed, and he has to try and outwit his captor.

Writing the play is William Goldman, who previously adapted the novel with Stephen King for the 1990 movie and horror classic, starring Kathy Bates and James Caan.

Will Frears is to direct the production, with previous experience on it when it debuted at Bucks County Playhouse in 2012.

Warner Bros. are co-producing the show with Raymond Wu and Castle Rock Entertainment but the "strictly limited engagement" has no venue or dates set yet.
