The 25-year-old rap star paid for injections in her backside when she was just 21, but she's admitted that the $800 fillers left her feeling terrible.
The 'Bodak Yellow' hitmaker - who went to a basement apartment in Queens, New York, to get the injections - shared: "They don't numb your ass with anything.
"It was the craziest pain ever. I felt like I was gonna pass out. I felt a little dizzy. And it leaks for, like, five days."
Cardi subsequently explained that she decided to get implants after discovering that her boyfriend at the time had been cheating on her with a woman who had a "fat, big ass".
What's more, Cardi - who was working as a stripper at the time - noted that women with bigger backsides were receiving more male attention.
However, Cardi's plans to go back for further treatment on her backside were derailed when the woman who gave her the fillers ended up in prison.
Speaking to GQ magazine, Cardi - who recently announced she's expecting her first child - explained: "By the time I was gonna go get it, the lady got locked up 'cause she's supposedly killed somebody.
"Well, somebody died on her table."
Prior to stripping, Cardi - who was born and raised in The Bronx in New York - was also a gang member.
She confessed: "When I was 16 years old, I used to hang out with a lot of ... Bloods.
"I used to pop off with my homies. And they'd say, 'Yo, you really get it poppin'. You should come home. You should turn Blood.' And I did. Yes, I did."
But she subsequently turned her back on a life of crime, because she could make more money working in strip clubs.
She shared: "When I was a stripper, I didn't give a f**k about gangs, because I was so focused on making money."
