The 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' actress - who passed away in December 2016 after suffering a cardiac arrest - never went anywhere without her French bulldog Gary and the pet pooch has now found a new home with Carrie's assistant Corby McCoin.

It was first thought Gary would live with Carrie's daughter Billie Lourd as the pooch was particularly fond of her bulldog Tina but it was ultimately decided that Gary should live with Corby because he had been around her more, TMZ reports.

Gary even had his own Twitter account, and whilst it was not affiliated with the late actress, the owner posted a sweet tribute to Carrie when she passed away last year.

They wrote at the time: "Saddest tweets to tweet. Mommy is gone. I love you @carrieffisher ... I'll still be waiting for you....... I was always by your side but best of all you were always by mine. #RIPCarrie

"Love knows no season, It haunts the soul eternally. Coolest dog ever posing with the coolest human ever #RIPCarrie #CarrieFisher (sic)."

Carrie has always been close to her pet dog and she previously claimed he was like Elvis because he attracts so much attention.

She said: "I want to get his tongue pierced. It's like wandering around with Elvis. I've gotten so much attention with it that it seemed like the most natural, ridiculous move - if there could be a combination like that - to put him on the Internet."

And poignantly, Carrie admitted she felt guilty that Gary had developed a sort of "attachment anxiety" and can't bear to be away from her.

She added: "He hates being away from me. That's just sort of attachment anxiety. I feel bad having developed as a person who has that."

Despite her love for Gary, Carrie once confessed she feels "a little stupid" always having him with her all the time.

She said: "I'm beginning to feel a little stupid about this - it's not difficult for me to get to feeling a little stupid - but I never thought that I'd be on of those women who'd have a dog attached to her hip, but here I am!"
