Carrie Underwood never thought she'd need a man.

The 32-year-old singer - who married Mike Fisher, the father of her nine-month-old son Isaiah, in 2010 - is stunned by how her life has turned out and how content she is with the hockey player because she wasn't looking for love when they met.

Discussing her new track, 'What I Never Knew I Always Wanted', she said: "Music is at its most powerful when it tells a story and this is about my husband - and son - coming into my life when I was least expecting it.

"When I was younger, I didn't sit around envisioning my wedding or the guy I was going to marry. I wasn't looking for it.

"I was happy in my life and where I was and never considered myself to be the kind of person who needed a man or anyone, really.

"But with Mike, it all fell into place. It was like, this works, this fits. It was easy. From that moment on we were together.

And Carrie thinks the pair work so well together because their differences complement one another.

She told Britain's HELLO! magazine: "We're great together and we fill each other's gaps. I can't do numbers or add - it's not how my brain works - and money makes no sense, but Mike is very practical and figures are his thing.

"When we have meetings about finances, I zone out for two hours while he deals with it all.

"I'm more creative whereas he's more practical. While Mike loves physical work, being outdoors and doing things such as driving on a tractor, I prefer taking care of things around the home. I'm a bit of a list maker, a type-A personality who likes plans and structure."
