The 41-year-old actor walked away from the Academy Awards on Sunday (26.02.17) with the Best Actor in a Leading Role prize for his performance in drama 'Manchester by the Sea'.

His victory follows his older brother Ben's two Oscar wins for Best Original Screenplay for 1997's 'Good Will Hunting' - which he shared with his close friend Matt Damon - and Best Picture for 2012 thriller 'Argo' which he directed and starred in.

The two siblings were brought up by their mother Chris after she left their alcoholic father Timothy and Casey is sure she must feel great about her boys' cinematic success.

In an interview with the Boston Globe newspaper, he said: "It seems crazy ... It must be nice for Mom. I'm pretty proud of all the things Ben's done, and I'm incredibly proud of the fact the Academy honored me in this way."

Casey is known for being super-selective about the roles he will accept, and 'Manchester by the Sea' producer Chris Moore - who has known him for 20 years - tried several times to cast him in other movies he has worked on.

Even though he is now an Oscar winner, Casey doesn't think his approach to his work and his decision-making process when it comes to parts will change.

He explained: "I've chosen the parts that have interested me and parts that I thought I could do a job with but also were challenging and a little bit scary. I wish I had more control over my career, but making movies is something you do with lots of people.

"I've seen 'Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit' about 25 times each, so I like all kinds of movies, but I'm drawn, as an actor, to dramas about humans living lives I can relate to. I don't know what [the Oscar] means going forward. I don't plan on changing anything about what I've done up to this point. Every once in a while a part like 'Manchester by the Sea' comes along and you get the chance to do it and you just hope, at that moment, you're ready."
