The couple have listed their historic estate in the Australian city for the huge sum - which converts to AUS$20 million - and are keen to find a buyer as soon as possible.

The sandstone-faced Bulwarra property - which has been extensively modernised by Cate and Andrew - was built in 1877 and overlooks the Lane Cove River and is based on approximately one acre in Hunters Hill, the country's oldest garden suburb.

Any prospective new owner can look forward to five bathrooms, an interior of raised ceilings and walls of glass, a formal dining room, a centre-island kitchen, a master bedroom complete with a skylight-topped dressing room and a personal office and library for work.

The grounds outside feature a swimming pool for cooling off, a tennis court to work up a sweat and a personal spa to relax in and direct access to a nearby river.

Buyers can view photos of the property and make viewing appointments through Christie's International Realty.

The main motivation for selling up could be that Andrew's stint as the artistic director for the Sydney Theatre Company recently ended after five years and he revealed the family planned to relocate.

He said: "We're not sure about the US. We're not sure where we will go yet. We've got about a year in our minds where we will explore some of those overseas options."

Oscar winner Cate, 46, and Andrew, 49, expanded their family earlier this year by adopting baby daughter Edith, a younger sister for their sons Dashiell, 13, Roman, 10, and six-year-old Ignatius.
