Cee Lo Green has been dropped from two concerts after he posted some controversial views on rape.

The 40-year-old singer was set to headline a Freedom Live gig at the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington D.C. later this month, but organisers have announced he will no longer perform at the event.

Writing on Facebook, Freedom Live said: "Unfortunately, one of the performers we signed for the JBAB Freedom Live show on 20 September recently posted comments on social media that we consider to completely inconsistent with Navy core values. Regardless of intent or context, the lack of sensitivity towards an issue that is one of the great challenges facing our Navy is unacceptable.

"As a result, we have made the decision to pull Cee Lo Green from the Freedom Live event on 20 September."

Cee Lo was also scheduled to headline the Gretna Heritage Festival in Louisiana in October, but he has now been replaced by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

Writing on Facebook, the Gretna Heritage Festival wrote: "Cee Lo Green has been removed from the ‪#‎GretnaFest‬ line-up, as he does not represent the festival's wholesome family environment."

The 'Bright Lights Bigger City' allegedly posted several comments about rape on his Twitter account last week, just days after he pleaded no contest to furnishing ecstasy to a 33-year-old woman.

In response to other Twitter users, he reportedly wrote: "If someone is passed out they're not even WITH you consciously! so WITH Implies consent

"People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!! (sic)"

Cee Lo later apologised for the comments by tweeting: "I truly and deeply apologize for the comments attributed to me on Twitter. Those comments were idiotic, untrue and not what I believe. (sic)."
