The Coldplay singer's ex-wife features on the band's new track 'Everglow' and Chris has hinted that their split could have inspired it.

Speaking on Zane Lowe's Beats One radio show, Chris said: "I was in the ocean one day with this surfer guy. He was like, 'Yo dude, I was doing this thing the other day, man. It gave me this total everglow!' I was like, 'What an amazing word!'

"Then the song came completely out. To me, it's about - whether it's a loved one or a situation or a friend or a relationship that's finished, or someone's passed away - I was really thinking about, after you've been through the sadness of something, you also get this everglow. That's what it's about."

Chris, 38, previously revealed Gwyneth, 43, even wrote some of the lyrics after she mused to him: "How come things move on? How come cars don't slow?"

He then asked her to record the vocals and Chris explained: "She came up with the idea so I said, 'Is there any chance you'd sing that line because it's your idea?' Like any human, she was like, 'I can't do that! I'm not a professional'.

"'Everglow' started from the idea that when something crazy happens to you, it's strange how the world keeps rolling.

"I like the idea that at the end of most things there's something good to be found from it."
