Chris Martin was "very much at ease" at his first public appearance since splitting from Gwyneth Paltrow.

The Coldplay frontman, who announced he and the 'Iron Man 3' star were separating late last month after 10 years of marriage, seemed in great spirits as he helped honour British musician Peter Gabriel at his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Brooklyn, New York on Thursday night (10.04.14).

An onlooker told UsMagazine.com: "Chris Martin was smiling and made several jokes when he introduced Peter Gabriel. He seemed very much at ease and didn't seem affected by the split."

The 'Paradise' hitmaker, 37, did not mention his recent personal troubles during his speech and told the crowd: "I couldn't be more thrilled to be here."

After speaking in "glowing terms" about Peter, he joined the 'In Your Eyes" singer onstage to perform 'Washing of the Water.'

Chris, who has daughter Apple, nine, and son Moses, eight, with Gwyneth, was not wearing his wedding ring at the event, despite the Oscar-winning star posting a picture online of herself recently in which she was wearing her ring.

The former couple took a holiday to the Bahamas shortly before news of their separation was announced on Gwyneth's lifestyle website GOOP in a post titled "Conscious Uncoupling".

They wrote: "It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate.

"We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.

"We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been."
