Richard Terry claims that Chris intentionally struck him with the vehicle while leaving the Giorgio Baldi restaurant in Santa Monica, California in January.

According to a lawsuit obtained by TMZ, Mr Terry claims Chris deliberately turned his vehicle, mounting the sidewalk and hitting the photographer.

The filing claims that Chris has "a significant history of repeated and ongoing violent acts against entertainment news people".

He also slammed Chris for not checking on him before leaving the scene.

Another photographer took pictures of the incident, which show Mr Terry lying on the sidewalk as emergency services tend to him.

Meanwhile, Chris's professional life is going from strength-to-strength and next year the musician and his band will play the half-time Super Bowl 50 show.

However, Chris admitted that the nerves are starting to kick in.

Speaking about their holiday plans for the festive period, Chris - who has just flown to Los Angeles to spend the holidays with his former wife Gwyneth Paltrow and their children Apple, 11 and nine-year-old Moses, said: "We get a couple of weeks off but then we're preparing for the Super Bowl.

"It's a huge show so there's a lot of pressure and we've already started planning what we want to do."
