The 'Genie in a Bottle' hitmaker sparked rumours she would be paying tribute to the late singer - who was found dead in her hotel room in February 2012 - on the NBC talent competition after photos and videos surfaced on social media late last week of her glammed up and singing with the virtual likeness.

And a source has now confirmed to 'Entertainment Tonight' that a hologram of the late star will appear on an upcoming episode of the show for a special duet, though it is as yet unclear when that will air.

Though Christina - who sits on the judging panel alongside Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Pharrell Williams - won't be drawn on the details of her performance, she did tease there are some "very exciting" things planned.

She said: "I am sworn to secrecy. I can't say anything, but I'm very excited about the finale. Very exciting things happening."

Last year, Hologram USA unveiled plans to take the virtual likeness of the 'I Will Always Love You' singer on a world tour, but to date, no details have been announced.

At the time, Whitney's sister-in-law Pat Houston - the president of the late star's estate - said in a statement: "It's a great opportunity for her fans to see a reinvention of one of the most celebrated female artists in history and to continue a legacy of performances that will not be forgotten in years to come."

Hologram USA announced that the hologram will perform at "a major U.S. venue" in 2016, while it was reported the show would "be interactive and feature the singer's greatest hits alongside as-yet-unannounced special guests."

The Voice finale airs Ton NBC on May 24.
