The couple - who were both born and raised in America - held a beautiful ceremony earlier this month at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire, northwest England, as their friends and family gathered round to watch them tie the knot.

But it's believed their marriage wasn't actually deemed real under the eyes of the law until July 9 when they exchanged vows in King County, Washington, according to E! News.

Although the pair had to wait until they'd jetted back to the US to officiate their marriage, their traditional ceremony at the country hotel was certainly one to remember.

The 30-year-old singer waltz down the aisle in a one-of-a-kind Roberto Cavalli Couture wedding gown, which was designed by the label's creative director Peter Dundas, as eight bridesmaids - including Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Rowland - walked in front of her with flowers in their hands.

The 27-year-old Seattle Seahawks American footballer looked handsome in a custom-made Giorgio Armani suit but admitted the best part of their wedding was watching his beautiful bride make her way towards him at the altar.

He said previously: "To share a special moment and a lifetime with somebody that you truly love and really cares about you is amazing. That's what everybody is searching for. I found that. I was fortunate and blessed to find that and the best part was watching her walk down the aisle.

"Just to see her face and the long train she had. And then Earth, Wind and Fire took the night away."

Meanwhile, the couple decided to abstain from having sex until after they wed but are now thinking about starting a little family of their own once Ciara has recorded her new album.

Russell explained: "Down the road, I would obviously [want kids]. She does too and hopefully, god willing, as long as they're healthy, that's what we pray for and whether it's a boy or girl, who knows but we've got some time for that."

Ciara already has two-year-old son Future Jr. with her former fiancé Future, whom she split from in 2014.
