Coldplay claimed their Super Bowl half-time show was just a warm-up for their performance at the NME Awards as they collected their Godlike Genius prize.

The group were honoured with the legendary prize at the annual ceremony, which took place last night (17.02.16) at London's O2 Academy Brixton, where they joked their performance to over 110 million viewers in America last week was just helping them gear themselves up to perform at the awards tonight.

Speaking at the event, frontman Chris Martin quipped: "We haven't played a proper gig for ages. We did a warm up gig in Santa Clara last week for the NME Awards. This is supposed to be the last one but if you want, we're going to keep f***ing playing."

The group also thanked Kylie Minogue - who presented the 'A Sky Full of Stars' hitmakers with their honour - for her "kind" speech.

Before finishing their set, which included performances of some of their biggest hits such as 'Viva La Vida' and 'Fix You', Chris said: "OK one more than we'll go. This will be our last song then we'll let you go. Thank you NMEs, thank you Kylie ... Thank you for you speech that was so kind - if you want to go the awards are finished but stay if you want to stay."

Other notable winners at the event included Yoko Ono, who picked up the NME Inspiration Award and The Maccabees for taking home Best British Band.

Foals, Bring Me The Horizon and The Maccabees were just some of the acts who performed at the starstudded event.
