The retired soccer star celebrates the milestone age on 2 May and wants to throw a party for his family and childhood friends and neighbours, where he will serve his favourite British food.

A source said: "David's got his heart set on having a big bash with all his family, football mates and childhood friends and neighbours.

"He wants to invite people he hasn't seen in years.

"He's sentimental and wants to go back to his Essex roots. He's thinking about having a chip shop dinner served, pies and mash - all authentic and very real."

However, David's wife Victoria - with who he has sons Brooklyn, 16, Romeo, 12, and Cruz, 10, and daughter Harper, three - is said to be unimpressed by his ideas.

The source told heat magazine: "Victoria's hoping he'll opt for something more sophisticated. She's suggested going out for dinner with a couple of their celeb friends before heading away on a mini break - but David's got other ideas."

And the 40-year-old fashion designer is also unhappy with the sportsman's other plan to celebrate the milestone occasion.

The insider explained: "He's planning another motorbike trip with his friend Dave [Gardner] from LA to Las Vegas."
