The retired soccer star launched his first fragrance, Instinct, when youngest boy Cruz was just a baby and though a lot has changed since then, the 39-year-old hunk - who also has Brooklyn, 16, Romeo, 12, and Harper, three, with wife Victoria - thinks the scent remains timeless.

He said: "So much has changed in 10 years, my hair - many times - how I speak and my knowledge of fragrance - my jeans were a lot baggier then too.

"But I'm almost 40 now and I still wear Instinct. My youngest boy is 10 and he loves it. I think we created something pretty special."

David is a style icon to many men and he feels proud so many males are more interested in their appearance because of his influence.

He said: "I think British men look after themselves pretty well these days and people say I've played a part in that, which makes me feel proud.

"I know it might seem planned, but nothing - from my hairstyles to the fragrance and my beard - none if it is planned. It depends on my mood."

However, the hunky star admitted one of the reasons he keeps his beard is to annoy people who say it looks "terrible".

He told HELLO!'s Fashion Monthly magazine: "I'm sticking with the beard for now. I'm a Taurus, so when people tell me it looks terrible and I should shave it off, that just makes me want to keep it even more. Right now, I'm liking it."
