The 'Noah' actress and Oxford University student Matthew Janney, 22, decided to call it a day on their relationship, but have decided to still maintain a friendship.
Watson's work demands were supposedly the reason for their split.
A spokesperson for Emma confirmed the "amicable" split to the Daily Mail newspaper.
There was speculation that the couple were moving in together after she was seen moving out of her London home.
An eyewitness said at the time: "The couple was very affectionate as they moved items. At one point Matthew wrapped his arms around Emma and kissed her."
Watson likes to date men who aren't famous rather than actors and she tries to protect them when they are a couple as she believes it is not fair to thrust them into the public eye also.
She recently said: "I don't date people who are famous.
"I don't think it's fair that, all of a sudden, intimate details of their personal life are public as a direct result of me. I wish I could protect them."
