The 29-year-old actress plays Dolores Abernathy in the sci-fi western series and has been just as gripped by the twists and turns of the programme's plots as the audience because she and her co-stars were deliberately kept in the dark by producers.

However, rather than be hindered by her lack of knowledge, Evan actually felt it was helpful for her performance.

She said: "One of my theories was that Arnold was at the center of the maze or that all of our human versions were going to be locked in there! I didn't know Bernard was a host when we were doing our scenes.

"It helped that most of the time I didn't know what was going on. We had no idea what was happening outside of our own worlds."

And Ed Harris, who plays the mysterious Man on Black, also got a shock early during filming.

Speaking at PaleyFest in Los Angeles, he said: "I walked by my trailer and someone told me that Jimmi (Simpson) was the guy playing the younger me and I was like, 'What?' "

Evan recently admitted she cried after shooting a 'Westworld' scene with Sir Anthony Hopkins because she idolises him so much.

She said: "He really is the greatest actor I've ever worked with. I did a couple scenes and afterwards just had to go into a corner and weep.

"And someone found me and said, 'Oh my God, are you OK? Did the scene go badly?' I was crying. And I went 'No, it went really well. I'm just crying because I've hit a milestone as an actor. That's a little overwhelming and I'm taking a moment.' "

When they weren't filming, though she found Anthony "very approachable", Evan was too star-struck to spend much time with him.

She admitted: "I do still get quite star-struck around him. I can't help it. And he's so down-to-earth and sweet and very approachable, but I just could not get over it.

"So I would say a couple words and then I would have to sort of run away."
