While only Mel B, Geri Horner and Emma Bunton reunited in London earlier this week to record the group's first new music in 16 years, Mel admitted that they have been speaking to Mel C and Victoria Beckham about getting the quintet together to celebrate their milestone.

Speaking on Jamie Theakston and Emma's Heart FM Breakfast show, she said: "I think between us five girls we're always working on something between the five of us.

"It is our 20th anniversary coming up and we are in talks of doing something, whatever that may be."

Mel's comments come after former Spice Girls producer Eliot Kennedy revealed the trio had been working on new material.

He tweeted: "Now that was a day for the history books. Like 20 years had never happened. Proper friendship! Hit Song."

Mel also shared a picture of the group on Instagram and wrote: "And I say oohhhh LALA (sic)."

And she said: "It's funny, because back in the day people thought we had everything written for us but we've always written all our own songs. That's why we've won Ivor Novello awards and all sorts. Everything always comes from us, and to do something for our 20-year anniversary is the ultimate dream.

"If we do anything, we will be writing everything from scratch. We are all group texting and speak a lot."

A new single and album are expected to be released later this year, while the Spice Girls have been tipped to play a number of dates in both London and Los Angeles in 2017.

Mel added: "We definitely want to do something. It's a celebration of us still doing our thing 20 years on and still being supportive of each other, so we will see what happens. We are all just kind of in talks right now."

It was previously claimed that Victoria and Mel won't return to celebrate the anniversary, with Victoria working on her fashion line and Mel concentrating on her own music.
