George Clooney's fiancée has turned down the actor's suggestion to get married at Highclere Castle - where Downton Abbey is filmed - because it's where Katie Price tied the knot.

Clooney recently took Amal Alamuddin to visit Highclere Castle - the Hampshire estate where the popular period drama is filmed - with a view to tying the knot there in September and though the lawyer thought the setting was beautiful, she has had a change of heart after learning the venue was the same setting for the former glamour model's nuptials to first husband Peter Andre in 2005.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Amal doesn't really know that much about celebrity.

"But she is well aware who Katie Price is and didn't want her big day to be in any way associated with that kind of media circus.

"So they've gone back to the drawing board and are looking at other places."

The 53-year-old actor arranged the initial visit to the castle through friend Hugh Bonneville, who plays Robert Crawley in the period drama, and was initially delighted when Amal liked the building as much as he did.

A source said recently: "George became close friends with Hugh Bonneville, who plays Lord Robert Crawley, when they did 'The Monuments Men' together last year.

"And they really hit it off. He contacted Hugh and asked him to arrange a private tour of the castle. Amal was blown away.

"When he saw his bride-to-be's reaction to the spectacular Victorian castle, set on 1,000 acres of parkland, he began making some discrete inquires about having their wedding performed there.

"And he was told they would be most happy to accommodate them."

Despite Amal's change of heart, the couple have no shortage of other prospective wedding venues, with George's homes in Lake Como, Italy, and Cabo San Lucas in Mexico, also said to be being considered.
