The 51-year-old TV chef caused a stir on social media after telling his fans he was going to try cutting out all animal products - which includes all meat and dairy - in favour of a cruelty-free lifestyle, despite being vocal about his love of meat in the past.

The Michelin-starred chef posted a picture of a vegan pizza on his Twitter account and he taunted: "Going to give this #vegan thing a try ... Yes guys you heard that right. Gx (sic)"

However, it's not believed that the chef is changing his ways anytime soon, because many of his signature dishes at his global restaurants feature fish, meat, egg and cheese.

Instead, Gordon's revelation is more likely to promote his new business venture as he opens Gordon Ramsay Street Pizza, which is welcoming customers in Central London for the first time on Tuesday (17.04.18).

Gordon has previously been an outspoken critic of veganism and once attracted negative headlines after feeding meat to a vegetarian on a TV show.

During an episode of 'Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares' in 2005, the TV chef urged passers-by to sample pizzas at La Lanterna in Hertfordshire, South East England.

One of the volunteers subsequently revealed that he had been a vegetarian for the previous eight years.

However, Gordon reassured him that the he had nothing to worry about as the chef had prepared a special meat-free pizza.

After enjoying a slice of the tasty pizza, Gordon told him: "Unfortunately, that pizza has got a lot of mozzarella and tomatoes, but underneath all that there is parma ham."

The incident attracted widespread criticism, with fellow TV chef Heston Blumenthal blasting Gordon.

He said at the time: "If someone decides not to eat meat they have made that decision for a reason and it should be respected."
