Gwen Stefani's oldest son is "incredibly sensitive".
The No Doubt singer has taken some time out of her career because her eldest child "really needed" her to be around.
The 44-year-old beauty who has three boys, Kingston, eight, Zuma, six, and Apollo, eight months, with husband Gavin Rossdale - feels "lucky" to have been able to take some time out from her career to be with her family.
She said: "The last three years were really hard. My oldest turned five, and he's an incredibly sensitive person. I had to do a lot of work.
"In a way it was really lucky I was home during that time, because he really needed me during that time period."
Stefani admits it can be tough juggling work and family life and has found the best approach to be taking things a day at a time.
She explained to the New York Daily News newspaper's Confidenti@l column: "One thing I've learned is not so much to worry about the future but live in the moment. It really does help with the stress."
