The 47-year-old actor bid farewell to Fay Duncan, the mother of his wife Deborra-Lee Furness, by performing a musical tribute of 'Quiet Please, There's a Lady on Stage' in front of the mourning congregation, according to Australia's Herald Sun newspaper.

The service also featured a performance from singer Kate Ceberano, who sang 'Amazing Grace'.

Hugh and Deborra-Lee were joined by celebrity friends, including actor Eric Bana and Tottie Goldsmith, and family members as they attended the memorial at St John's Anglican Church in Melbourne, Australia.

Fay passed away at the age of 81 on Sunday (28.08.16) after a long-lasting illness.

She was a committed charity campaigner and died at her home in Mount Eliza in Victoria's Mornington Peninsula, where she was surrounded by friends and family.

Hugh has also paid a heartfelt tribute to his mother-in-law on his Twitter account.

Above a picture of the two of them smiling side by side, the 'Wolverine' actor wrote: "Fay Duncan I am blessed to have been your son-in-law. I love you more than any words can express. HJ (sic)"

Hugh and Deborra-Lee have both been in Melbourne since mid-August to be with Fay.

And Deborra-Lee paid a glowing tribute to her mother following her passing.

She said: "Through her heart and love and joy, her family are imprinted with a little piece of Fay that will always be there.

"I am forever grateful and proud that I am her daughter, she will be with me in my heart for all time."

Deborra-Lee added: "She has left an indelible footprint on so many people's lives - through her warm, open welcoming personality she has touched people.

"Through her completely committed work at the Fight Cancer Foundation, she changed the trajectory of so many families lives."
