The 27-year-old actor - who played a young Anakin Skywalker in the 1999 film 'Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace' - was jailed for exceeding speeds of 100mph in a car chase in South Carolina in June.

Lloyd has now been moved from prison after 10 months to a mental health medical department where he was reportedly diagnosed.

His mother Lisa told TMZ his mental stability appeared to have improved as of last week since he was transferred and receiving treatment for the illness.

According to the website, there is no set deadline for Lloyd's release from the facility, which is fine by his family who just want him to be well again not matter how long it takes.

In 2012, Lloyd - who also had roles in 'Apollo 11' and 'Virtual Obsession' - stated acting in the 'Star Wars' saga had made his life "a living hell".

He previously said: "Other children were really mean to me. They would make the sound of the lightsaber every time they saw me. It was totally mad.

"My entire school life was really a living hell - and I had to do up to 60 interviews a day."
