The 37-year-old British comic has been living in Los Angeles since agreeing to take over the reins of the CBS series from departing host Craig Ferguson in March and in those several months he has found his circle of pals has come to include some of the most famous people in the world.

Corden admits he couldn't quite believe it when he was sat in a restaurant with the U2 frontman and his wife Alison Hewson, Penn and his ex-partner Charlize Theron and Colin Farrell.

In an interview on UK TV show 'Lorraine', he revealed: "We went to dinner with Bono and his wife and Sean Penn and Charlize Theron and Colin Farrell. I remember thinking, 'OK well this didn't used to happen.'

"I think Sean Penn got the bill You find yourself going, 'Thanks Sean, you didn't have to do that, I'll get the next one.' "

Corden admits he is loving life in Los Angeles, especially at weekends when he feels as though he's on vacation in the "South of France".

The star has praised his wife Julia for adapting to the American way of life, especially as they moved Stateside from the UK when their 14-month-old daughter Carey was just five weeks old.

Corden - who also has son Max, four, with Julia - said: "Just in the notion of living in America, that in itself is as big a life change as you could have but yeah all of it is very strange, how different everything is.

"It's a credit to my wife really, to move here with a five week old, our daughter was five weeks old and my son was three and that is a massive undertaking. I work really hard in the week and then I feel like on a Saturday morning, it's like you've clicked your fingers and you're just in the South of France and my son is outside and the sun is shining and you feel very lucky to be in a position where that is our life, for a few years, or until they sack me!"
